Detroit Introduced the Journey Itself

After five days surrounded by NFL history in Canton, the regular-season chapter of the Tailgate America tour began in Detroit. Ford Field delivered overtime drama, a Lions victory, and a city that proved every NFL destination brings something entirely its own.

Ford Field was where the regular-season chapter of the Tailgate America NFL Tour truly began. After spending five days surrounded by the history and legends of professional football in Canton, Ohio, it was time to move from history into the energy of an NFL Sunday.

Game One of the regular season brought the tour to Detroit, Michigan, for the Detroit Lions against the New Orleans Saints.

Arriving in Detroit immediately gave the tour a different feeling. Canton had been about history and legendary players. Detroit was about the game as it exists today. Fans filled downtown, team colors were everywhere, and anticipation continued building throughout the day.

That contrast made Detroit the perfect place to begin the regular-season portion of the journey.

Ford Field sits right in the heart of downtown, which makes the city itself part of the game-day experience. That's exactly what Tailgate America was created to capture. This tour isn't simply about walking into NFL stadiums and watching a game. It's about experiencing the entire destination — the streets, the fans, the traditions, the atmosphere, and everything that happens before and after kickoff.

Once inside Ford Field, the energy went to another level.

This was the first regular-season NFL game of the journey, and it delivered exactly the kind of drama you hope to experience on a tour like this. The Lions and Saints battled through four quarters, but four quarters weren't enough. The game went into overtime.

Detroit eventually finished it with a 31–24 victory, giving the first regular-season stop of the Tailgate America NFL Tour an unforgettable ending.

The final score tells you what happened, but the atmosphere tells you what it felt like. Throughout the game, the focus was on capturing not only the action on the field but also the reactions in the stands, the noise, the momentum shifts, and the smaller moments between the biggest plays. Those are the details that don't always show up in a highlight reel.

You can look up a final score years later. You can find statistics and highlights. But experiencing an NFL game inside the stadium is something entirely different. The sound of thousands of people reacting at the same time, the momentum changing after a big play, and the anticipation of an overtime finish are what make being there different from simply watching the game.

Postgame became another opportunity to capture the personality of Detroit. Fans celebrated the victory as the energy from Ford Field spilled out into the city.

By the time the day was over, it was clear that every NFL city, every stadium, and every fan base would bring something unique to this journey. Looking back, the transition from Canton to Detroit couldn't have been more fitting. Canton introduced the history of professional football. Detroit introduced the journey itself.

And after an overtime finish, a 31–24 Lions victory, and the first regular-season NFL stadium experience of the tour, Game One of the regular season was officially in the books. The regular-season journey had begun.

Canton introduced the history of professional football. Detroit introduced the journey itself.
